Role Overview: The Respiratory Therapist III provides advanced respiratory care, primarily in critical care settings, demonstrating independent decision-making and protocol ventilator management. Responsibilities include medication administration, patient assessment, airway management, and ventilator weaning, as well as educating patients and supporting staff development. The role emphasizes delivering quality, safe, and evidence-based care while engaging in performance improvement projects and serving as a preceptor for new employees and students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene, oxygen therapy, and manage ventilators.
- Perform patient assessments, arterial blood gas analysis, and invasive/non-invasive procedures.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Promote patient safety, accurate documentation, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide education to patients, families, and support systems, addressing biological, emotional, and developmental needs.
- Mentor and precept new staff and students, modeling best practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred).
- Valid certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NBRC-RRT.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in critical care areas.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and healthcare databases.
